Unceasing competition for restaurant payments revenue has spurred two developments among point-of-sale system makers catering to the segment.
Santa Clara, Calif.-based SoundHound AI Inc. says Olo, a New York City-based hospitality specialist, will make SoundHound’s voice-ordering service, which relies on artificial intelligence, available to its approximately 77,000 merchant locations. When implemented, restaurants will be able to process voice orders placed at the drive-through, at in-store kiosks, or over the phone.
SoundHound says its system can learn any restaurant’s menu and be deployed quickly. All voice orders are transmitted directly to the Olo platform, which integrates with a restaurant’s system.
It’s been a busy year for SoundHound. In May it initiated an integration with Oracle Corp.’s Micros Simphony, a cloud-based POS kitchen management and POS application. In January, Toast Inc. added SoundHound’s technology to its roster of services for restaurants.
In related news, Montreal-based Lightspeed Commerce Inc. said it has become a preferred partner of the Joël Robuchon International group of restaurants, which includes locations in Las Vegas and Miami and several international locations.
