Eye on POS Terminals: Ingenico Debuts an Integrated POS Device; Genesys Incorporates Tech from MagTek

The evolution of point-of-sale devices and technology is unwavering, and the latest development is from Ingenico with its new Axium CX9000, an electronic cash register. Additionally, MagTek Inc. and Genesys Technologies have launched a POS reader for unattended payments.

Ingenico’s Axium CX9000 has two screens, a 1.56-inch one for the employee and a customer-facing 8-inch screen for customers. The smaller display includes a camera for data capture. The Android-based device works with multiple POS software services. Ingenico says it supports all major payment types and is PCI- and EMV-compliant.

Ingenico says the device can support a merchant’s loyalty programs, digital-receipt service, and customer relationship management tools, in addition to payment acceptance. A cash drawer, barcode scanner, and printer can be attached via USB ports.

MagTek is supplying advanced encryption technology to the CryptoTap Plus payment service.

In related news, payment security provider MagTek says Genesys Technologies, which makes unattended payment devices for the self-service cleaning industry, will use MagTek’s secure encryption technology in its latest CryptoTap Plus product, which uses MagTek’s DynaProx readers. CryptoTap Plus is a contactless EMV reader that connects directly to a car wash timer and has a QR code reader.

The CryptoTap Plus product can now use the AES-256 data-security protocol, which MagTek says is the highest level of secure encryption commercially available. Existing CryptoTap Plus devices can be upgraded remotely, Seal Beach, Calif.-based MagTek says. Soon, new CryptoTap Plus devices will have the security protocol as standard. CryptoTap Plus launched a year ago.
