- For financial institutions that have so far adopted real-time payments, 58% have opted for both FedNow and The Clearing House Payments Co.’s RTP system. But only 41% of large banks and 28% of businesses agree that the United States is moving fast enough toward adoption of faster payments. This is according to the 2025 Faster Payments Barometer released early Wednesday by the U.S. Faster Payments Council, which surveyed more than 400 organizations.
- Shift4 Payments Inc. will process all transactions flowing from all properties belonging to Alterra Mountain Co., which operates 19 mountain resorts in North America.
- Point-of-sale technology provider VeriFone Inc. said it will work with biometric-software company PopID to enable authentication with gestures such as a smile or a palm wave.
- CellPoint Digital has agreed to provide payment-orchestration services to Air Europa, a Spain-based airline. The technology will enable the air carrier to accept a broader spectrum of alternative payment methods, CellPoint says.
- Toast Inc., a specialist in point-of-sale technology and processing for the hospitality industry, reported fourth-quarter 2024 gross payment volume of $42.2 billion, up 25% year-over-year, while total locations grew 26% to 134,000. For all of 2024, gross payment volume totaled $159.1 billion, up 26%. Revenue for the quarter totaled $1.34 billion, up 29%; for the year, $4.96 billion, a 28% rise. Net income for the quarter swung to a positive $33 million from a $36-million loss. Similarly, full-year net income improved to $19 million from a $246-million loss.
- The board of directors for Fiserv Inc. has authorized a repurchase of 60 million shares of the company’s common stock, either in the open market or in “privately negotiated transactions.”
