FBI Issues ATM Warning and other Digital Transactions News briefs

  • The FBI privately warned banks on Friday that cybercriminals are preparing a big “ATM cashout” operation, a choreographed global scheme in which fraudsters hack a bank or payment processor, plant malware that attempts to disable banks’ ATM withdrawal limits and related transaction controls, and use cloned payment cards to withdraw potentially millions of dollars from ATMs in just a few hours, KrebsOnSecurity reported.
  • Online marketplace OmniBazaar Inc. initiated a test that enables its consumers to sell their goods and services in exchange for cryptocurrencies.
  • Data-security services provider Trend Micro Inc. said its review of underground Internet forums has found a listing for the sale of malware that compromises Bitcoin ATMs and includes a ready-to-use card with EMV and near-field communication capabilities.
  • Meetings-and-events organizer Cvent Inc. announced it is adopting commercial cards from Citigroup Inc. to allow event users a tool to settle expenses. The deal includes the ability for users to request a virtual card number for payment directly through Cvent’s platform.
