First Data and Flywire Team Up and other Digital Transactions News briefs

• Processing giant First Data Corp. and cross-border payments specialist Flywire Corp. announced a collaboration by which Flywire education and health-care clients will be able to more easily accept cross-border card payments and First Data clients will be able to more readily accept high-value international remittances.

• Gro Solutions, a vendor of digital solutions to financial institutions, has teamed with Magic-Wrighter, a provider of automated clearing house and other payment services, to allow consumers to fund a new bank account via ACH or payment card within four minutes.

• Processor Bank of America Merchant Services has teamed with cloud-based restaurant-services provider Bypass to offer a unified digital-commerce solution to arenas, sporting venues, corporate and college campuses, hospital cafeterias, and other food-and-beverage operators.

• Visa Inc. and Active Network, a platform for activities and events, have entered a multiyear agreement by which Active will adopt the Visa Checkout digital-payments solution and the two companies will engage in digital, cross-promotional marketing efforts.

• Ingenico Group announced its online and mobile-commerce division Ingenico ePayments will provide payments services to Fandango, a ticketing company owned by NBCUniversal, in Spanish-speaking Latin America.

• Fidelity National Information Services Inc. (FIS), a provider of processing services to financial institutions and merchants, reported its GAAP revenue for the first quarter grew 3.4% to $2.26 billion from $2.18 billion in the first quarter last year. Operating income rose 41% to $260 million from $184 million.

• Shopify Inc., a provider of payments and e-commerce services to small merchants, reported its first-quarter revenue rose 75% year-over-year, to $127.4 million. Adjusted net loss for the quarter was $3.5 million, down from $5.1 million year-over-year. Shopify •  Capital, the company’s merchant-finance service, had a total of $49 million in cash advances to U.S. merchants by the end of the quarter.

• Payments-technology provider U.S. Dataworks Inc. announced it filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Texas.

• Processor Global Payments Inc. said it is now supporting Apple Pay for merchants in Taiwan.

• Former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly is joining First Data’s Military Advisory Council, which advises the processor on employment and other matters regarding veterans, National Guard members, and military spouses.

• Prepaid card services provider Blackhawk Network Holdings Inc. appointed Greg Brown senior vice president of international.
