- The U.S. Department of Justice announced indictments against four members of a unit of China’s People’s Liberation Army with computer fraud, economic espionage, and wire fraud in connection with the 2017 data breach at credit-reporting agency Equifax Inc. that compromised personal data on approximately 145 million Americans. According to the indictment, the defendants exploited a vulnerability in the Apache Struts Web Framework software used by Equifax’s online-dispute portal to conduct reconnaissance and obtain login credentials that could be used to further navigate Equifax’s network. As of last summer, Equifax’s costs from the breach totaled at least $671 million.

- A nationwide Gallup survey of 1,234 small-business owners for merchant processor Square Inc. found that Joe Biden is the top choice for 22% of respondents who plan to vote in the upcoming Democratic primaries, followed by Michael Bloomberg, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, and U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren. In head-to-head contests against President Donald Trump, Bloomberg was the only Democrat who beat Trump, 52% to 48%. Biden and Trump tied at 50% each.
