Gateway Reveals Card Breach and other Digital Transactions News Briefs from 9/12/24

  • Payment gateway Slim CD Inc. revealed a data breach resulting from suspicious activity it became aware of on June 15. The investigation found unauthorized system access between Aug. 17, 2023, and June 15, 2024. It says credit card information may have been viewed or obtained. Slim CD said it took measures to respond and notified federal law enforcement officials. The Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe LLP law firm, which is soliciting potential victims of the breach, says 1.7 million consumers could be affected.
  • All 150 Illinois Secretary of State locations are accepting contactless payments, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The agency handles driver services.
  • Point-of-sale system provider Lightspeed Commerce Inc. released a Benchmark & Trends service for its U.S. Lightspeed Restaurant customers to gain insights into how their performance ranks among other organizations.
  • Cantaloupe Inc., a specialist in payments for unattended venues, announced updates to its Seed vending-management software, including a refreshed design, better typography, and a refreshed color palette. The company says the technology can now be managed by operators using any device, including mobile phones and tablets.
  • Payments software platform Transcard announced its multi-party payment disbursement feature, launched earlier this year, has been successfully implemented, with almost 200,000 business-to-consumer payments recorded so far.
  • A Deloitte survey of 2,000 U.S. consumers found that the top priority for in-store convenience in grocery stores is speedier checkouts, desired by 73%, followed by more convenient store layouts, 59%, and easier returns, 51%.
  • Payments orchestration firm CellPoint Digital appointed Mark Patrick its chief revenue officer. Patrick had been global head of payments for the company since 2019.
  • Shift4 Payments Inc. chief executive Jared Isaacman made the first private spacewalk when he emerged outside the SpaceX Dragon Capsule Thursday. The Polaris Dawn mission launched Sept. 10 and is expected to last five days.
