Gen Z Digital Wallet Love and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 8/19/24

  • Interac Corp., Canada’s national debit network, said 69% of Gen Z Canadian adults have embraced the mobile wallet, while 63 % prefer to leave their physical wallet at home for short trips, according to a recent survey. Gen Z’s use of mobile wallets outpaces all other generations including Millennials (60%), Gen X (44%), Baby Boomers (27%), and the Silent Generation (10%). In addition, 63% of Gen Z mobile wallet users have loaded their Interac Debit cards on their phones, while 31% have taken the steps to set debit as their default payment method. The online survey canvassed 1,500 Canadian individuals in July.
  • In a global survey of 4,800 tenants, just 25% indicated their landlord offers an online payment portal, while 53% of U.S. renters can access online payment services for rent payment. Prospective tenants largely remain influenced by other technologies such as keyless entry and smart appliances, according to the 2024 Tenant Experience Survey from Capterra, a technology vendor. The survey, fielded in June, surveyed 400 respondents in each of 12 countries.
  • Risk-management technology provider Unit21 released new services aimed at using generative AI and machine learning to assist in detecting automated clearing house transaction risk at banks and credit unions. The company says its predictive technology attacks first-party fraud, account takeovers, and other scams. The ACH network processed 292.3 million same-day transactions in the second quarter, a 46.6% increase year-over-year.
  • The Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League will use Shift4 Payments Inc. to process ticket sales at the team’s home arena, Lucas Oil Stadium, starting with the upcoming 2024 season, the parties announced.
  • In related news, Jared Isaacman, Shift 4 chief executive, will lead the Polaris Dawn space launch scheduled for Aug. 26 from the Kennedy Space Center.
