- Fitbit introduced its first smart watch, the Ionic, which features contactless-payment capability. Over the coming months users can add tokenized American Express Co. cards as well as Visa Inc. and Mastercard Inc. credit and debit cards from certain banks around the world, including Bank of America, Capital One, HSBC, and U.S. Bank in the United States, the device maker says. The watch sells for $299.95 online and will be available in stores in October.
- In related news, Glance Technologies Inc. said it has licensed its Glance Pay mobile-payment technology to Active Pay Distribution Inc. for its Active Pay app, which is targeted at the fitness and wellness business. The licensing fee is $1 million, Glance said.
- Factor4 LLC said its loyalty platform, RewardOS, is available in First Data Corp.’s Clover app market, which supports the Clover point-of-sale system.
- Payza, an online payment platform, released its Payza Test Center, which allows merchants to test Payza integrations before going live with them. The new Test Center replaces Payza Sandbox and Payza Developer’s Center.
- Payments provider Pivotal Payments Inc. named Allan Lacoste vice president. He will be responsible for managing the company’s North American sales divisions. Lacoste most recently was ISO director at Total Merchant Services, which North American Bancard Holdings LLC purchased earlier this year.
- Bank of America Merchant Services, the acquiring arm of the money-center bank, pledged support for the National Guard and Reserve in a special ceremony recently.
