Global Payments’ New Venture And Other Digital Transactions News briefs from 1/11/24

  • The big U.S. payments processor Global Payments Inc. announced Commerz Globalpay GmbH, a joint venture with Commerzbank to offer digital-payments technology to businesses in Germany. Global Payments will hold a 51% stake in the venture.
  • The United Kingdom-based retailer Co-op said it has moved its payments technology into a cloud configuration on a platform from U.S. processor ACI Worldwide and hosted on Microsoft Azure.
  • Corporate-payouts specialist Onbe said it will work with TimeForge, a provider of labor-management technology for the food-service industry, to digitize tip payouts to restaurant workers.
  • Israel-based payments platform Nayax Ltd. said it has opened a technical support center for operations in the U.S. market.
  • MyChargeBack, which investigates cryptocurrency fraud and card-not-present disputes, has launched a “think tank” aimed at assisting law enforcement in the investigation of crime related to digital currencies.
  • Scratch Financial, a fintech specializing in payments processing for veterinary clinics, said it will process payments from clinics to Blue Rabbit, an online pharmacy serving veterinarians, via Scratch Checkout.
  • The U.S. Faster Payments Council published a research paper called “The Practicalities of Cross-Border Payments in a Faster Payments World.” The Council researches and avocates for new channels for faster payments in the U.S. market.
  • Payments platform Finix launched Payouts, a service that lets businesses send mass vendor payments through the Visa Direct and Mastercard Send networks.
  • Mastercard Inc. said it is testing an artificial-intelligence tool aimed at small businesses.
  • In related news, Mastercard said it has become the official partner of Hudson Yards, a neighborhood in New York City. The neighborhood features restaurants and retail brands as well as cultural attractions.
