GM Enables More In-Car Payments Options and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 8/8/18

  • Flow, a cross-border e-commerce platform, has added a cryptocurrency option through an arrangement with BitPay, a cryptocurrency exchange.
  • Through a so-called marketplace update, General Motors Co. is enabling in-dash fuel payments in select Buick models at Exxon Mobil stations. The capability is expected to come to other GM makes, 2017 and newer, over time. In April, GM launched the same capability for its Chevy brand at Shell stations.
  • Alphacomm Solutions, which offers payments processing for the telco and digital-goods markets, has adopted the UP eCommerce Payments service from ACI Worldwide Inc.
  • Payments-security provider Bluefin Payment Systems announced Anderson Zaks, a European payment service provider, will offer Bluefin’s point-to-point encryption service to its merchants.
  • Discover Network rolled out a new design and new features for its Cashback Debit product. The card now offers the ability to temporarily freeze usage and automatically transfer earned cash to a savings account.
  • Visa Inc. said a so-called incubator program, working with 40 credit unions across the United States and Canada, tested financial products and services aimed at minority communities. Visa worked with Filene Research Institute and the Ford Foundation on the effort, which worked with 18,000 underbanked households over 18 months.
  • Clear, provider of a biometrics-based access system for travelers in airports, debuted a payments service. Clear users can use the service at three venues for Seattle sports teams. Not only will users be able to use their Clear credentials to move through security, they’ll be able to make concession purchases with a scan of a fingertip.
