Mastercard Dodges U.K. Bullet and other Digital Transactions News briefs

• A London judge has rejected an effort by a consumer group in the United Kingdom to bring an $18 billion class-action suit against Mastercard Inc., according to Bloomberg News. The case is related to the card network’s cross-border transaction fees.

Square Inc. announced that Randy Garutti, chief executive of the Shake Shack restaurant chain, has joined its board of directors.

• In related news, accounting and payments solutions provider Intuit Inc. has named Deborah Liu to its board. Liu heads up Facebook Inc.’s developer and commerce businesses.

• Startup Affirm Inc. announced its consumer-financing service is now available at more than 1,000 online retailers. Founder Max Levchin is a former executive with PayPal.

Discover Financial Services launched a service that monitors Web sites that traffic in stolen credentials to alert cardholders if their Social Security numbers are found on the sites. The service also alerts cardholders if new card, mortgage, car-loan, or other accounts are opened in their name on their Experian credit report.
