• Universal Secure Registry LLC, a developer of computer-security and mobile-payment services, alleges in a federal lawsuit that Apple Inc. and Visa Inc. infringed on its patents for electronic payments and identity authentication as they developed their mobile-payment services. Apple and Visa did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
• The city of Portland, Ore., launched the Parking Kitty app, a mobile-payments app to enable motorists to pay for parking at 15,000 parking spaces across the city. Transit-payment specialist Passport Inc. provides the technology for the app.
• Integrity Payments Systems announced a deal that provides payment-processing services to users of the NowCerts Agency Management platform for insurance agencies.
• Hospitality point-of-sale system provider Squirrel Systems released an updated version of its Squirrel Professional 10 POS software that includes enhanced EMV and mobile-payment services.
• Epson America Inc. announced a partnership with Restaurant Magic, a hospitality POS software provider, that gives Restaurant Magic users access to Epson’s OmniLink Merchant Services platform. Epson also announced that its OmniLink TM-T88V-I POS printer will be used in the Food Online Ordering Systems self-service ordering-kiosk system. Epson also said that AfterWords, a customer-engagement data provider, can now collect data from Epson’s OmniLink printer.
• NCR Corp. unveiled a new version of its Counterpoint retail-management software for mid-sized retailers.
• Stock exchange provider Nasdaq Inc. and Citi Treasury and Trade Solutions, a unit of Citigroup Inc., announced the creation of an integrated payment service that relies on a distributed ledger, or a blockchain, for processing and automated reconciliation. The service uses blockchain technology from Chain Inc.
• Diebold Nixdorf said it acquired a minority equity stake in Kony Inc., a developer of cloud-based enterprise and mobile software, and with Kony plans to offer financial institutions and retailers white-label mobile applications.
• Sterling Payment Technologies, a unit of EVO Payments International, announced it supports EMV transactions made with ExaDigm Inc.’s NX2200e wireless point-of-sale terminal. Sterling also released an updated version of its Web site.
• Payment technology provider Icon Solutions Ltd. hired James Methe as senior vice president, Americas business development; Methe previously was senior director of North American payments and transaction-banking practice leader at consulting firm Capgemini.
