With 29 days until Major League Baseball’s opening day on March 28, the New York Yankees have selected Shift4 Payments Inc. as the team’s concessions and retail sales point-of-sale system provider.
Announced Wednesday, the deal will see Shift4 payment technology deployed at Yankee Stadium and at the George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla. The agreement follows Shift4’s $100-million deal last fall to acquire Appetize Technologies Inc. from SpotOn Transact LLC. Yankee Stadium has been an Appetize client since 2017.
All Yankee Stadium retail food and beverage outlets are cashless, MLB says, and only accept credit or debit cards, pay-ahead orders, and contactless payments. Yankee Stadium provides a so-called reverse ATM that will load funds onto a prepaid debit card that bears a Mastercard brand.
In related POS news, Sound Payments, a Jacksonville, Fla.-based POS and payment-software provider, says it now provides full boarding and deployment services to independent sales organizations using its devices. Resellers have asked for this support, Sound Payments says.
The services, available for a fee, includes Web portal configuration, store creation, inventory uploading, and one-on-one merchant training. Pricing is based on the selected services.
Payments-app setup includes adjusting settings for tips, adding PIN debit acceptance, and auto batch of transactions. Merchant store setup includes tax rate, tips, signature, receipt requirements, and other customization.
