The announcements about new point-of-sale and mobile-payment systems and related services came fast and furious Monday at the National Retail Federation’s annual Big Show underway in New York City.
• Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and independent sales organization Total Merchant Services Inc. announced the availability of TMS’s Groovv POS Flex, a point-of-sale system for small to mid-sized businesses that includes Samsung’s Galaxy Tab E, a 9.6-inch tablet, and a payment-processing service supports EMV chip cards and near-field communication (NFC) transactions for contactless payments. The companies are marketing Goovv POS flex as an alternative to traditional POS countertop devices.
• Electronics manufacturer Fujitsu America Inc. unveiled Fujitsu U-Shop, a prototype of a cloud-based service that enables consumers to shop from their mobile phones in stores. In addition to supporting payments, the service gives customers inventory and pricing information, and the ability to order online if they can’t find the exact product they want in the store.
• Merchant processor Vantiv Inc. introduced OnDemand Payments, a set of integrated products that offer merchants a single view of customer behavior and payments across multiple payment channels.
• Zoftec LLC, which does business as Veras Retail, released version 9.0 of its Veras CheckOut point-of-sale software, which is certified with the Cayan Genius platform for both traditional and mobile-payment devices.
• Tata Consultancy Services said it is working with payments provider Aurus Inc. to deliver payment services for retailers using Tata’s TCS OmniStore, a multichannel payments platform.
