POS Portal Sold to ScanSource and other Digital Transactions News briefs

  • Point-of-sale technology vendor ScanSource Inc. has agreed to acquire POS Portal, a supplier of payment devices and services, for $144.9 million in cash plus an earn-out payment up to $13.2 million contingent on earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization for the 12 months leading up to Nov. 30. The deal is expected to close by Sept. 30.
  • LendUp Global Inc., an online lender serving consumers with low credit scores, said PayPal Holdings Inc. had made a “strategic investment” in the company, the size of which was not disclosed.
  • In related news, PayPal appointed Ann N. Sarnoff, president of BBC Worldwide—Americas, to its board of directors. The appointment brings to 10 the number of PayPal directors.
  • On the 50th anniversary of the ATM this week, bankers and ATM industry executives reflected on the enormous impact of the automated teller machine, how ATM technology has evolved, and what consumers want from the devices going forward.
  • ATM manufacturer Diebold Nixdorf Inc. said it will sell its legacy Diebold business in the United Kingdom and Ireland to banking support-services provider Cennox Inc., thereby satisfying conditions set by the U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority for approval of the 2016 merger of Diebold and Germany-based Wincor Nixdorf AG. Wincor Nixdorf’s legacy U.K. and Ireland business will be integrated into the merged company.
  • Merchant-services provider Linkpay launched Linkpay.University, which it says is the “world’s first and only online video university for merchant-services professionals.”
  • Appetize, which markets point-of-sale technology for sports and entertainment venues, said its system is now being used at seven Major League Baseball stadiums, the latest being Yankee Stadium. Appetize supports Masterpass, Apple Pay, and EMV chip cards.
  • Apriva said it has completed an integration of the Parlevel Micro Market solution to the Apriva payment gateway platform. The Parlevel technology enables payments at vending machines via contactless readers and proprietary software.
