- POSaBIT Systems Corp., a point-of-sale system maker for the cannabis industry, said it will acquire MJ Platform, Leaf Data Systems, and Ample Organics from Akerna Corp. for $4 million in an all-cash transaction. The deal will almost double the number of locations serviced by POSaBIT and expands its operations in Canada. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter. The remaining part of Akerna will merge with Gryphon Digital Mining Inc., a Bitcoin miner.
- Bankers Helping Bankers, an online platform that serves community banks, named Pulse, the debit network from Discover Financial Services, its exclusive debit partner.
- A glitch at credit reporting agency Experian lasted 47 days, from Nov. 9 to Dec. 26, reported security site KrebsonSecurity.com. The glitch apparently only worked when accessing Experian’s Web site via annualcreditreport.com, the free credit report site.
- Loyalty network Engage People said it will work with Velocity Logic, a reward technology company, to enable BP retail consumers to use their loyalty and rewards points at the pump.
- Issuing platform Marqeta Inc. named Simon Khalaf its chief executive effective Jan. 31. Khalaf joined the firm in June 2022 as chief product officer. He also joins the board of directors. Marqeta also named Todd Pollak, a former Google and Ancestry executive, its chief revenue officer.
