• In yet another event related to payment card data security at hotels, Sentinel Hotel announced it is investigating an incident involving cards used at its front desks after receiving reports from some of its guests of unauthorized charges.
• While 22% of consumers overall prefer to receive coupons through the mail, 24% of Millennials and 18% of Gen Xers would rather scan a quick-response code on their mobile devices, according to the monthly Vantiv ShopTalk payments survey of 500 consumers conducted by Socratic Technologies Inc. Just 6% of Millennials prefer coupons in the mail.
• Research firm eMarketer Inc. reported that 38.4 million U.S. consumers, or 19.4%, will have used a mobile phone to make a point-of-sale payment at least once in the past six months. EMarketer said the mobile-paying segment will increase to 33.1% by 2020.
• ServiceMax, a provider of cloud-based field-service management solutions, has agreed to offer its clients online and mobile point-of-sale payments services from Paysafe Group plc.
• Financial-services firm SWBC said it has boosted its client count by 15% in 2016 through an arrangement with MoneyGram International that lets customers make loan payments at MoneyGram’s 33,000 U.S. locations or through the remittance company’s Web site.
• Four Canadians who face charges that they crossed into the United States to skim money from ATMs in Vermont may have stolen almost $250,000, according to federal court documents.
