Ransomware Payments up 78% and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 3/24/22

  • Ransomware payments exploded last year, with the average payment rising 78% year-over-year to $541,010, according to data compiled by cybersecurity firm Palo Alto Networks.
  • Blackbaud Inc., a cloud software company serving nonprofits, said clients of its Blackbaud Merchant Services unit can now accept payments via both PayPal and Venmo in the United States through select Blackbaud products.
  • Paysafe Ltd. announced it will process deposits by debit card and automated clearing house, as well as process payouts, for Resorts WorldBET, a mobile sports-betting app from Resorts World New York.
  • E-commerce platform BigCommerce said it will work with payments provider dLocal to process payments as part of BigCommerce’s expansion into Latin American markets.
  • Verifone Inc. announced its Cloud Services platform is supporting PayPal payments for home-furnishings retailer Living Spaces. The platform supports payments online, in-app, and in person.
  • Recurly, a billing platform for digital sellers, said it recovered more than $794 million in revenue for clients last year through its dunning technology, up 32% from 2020.
  • Tokenization provider TokenEx said it raised $100 million from K1 Investment Management in a Series B funding round. TokenEx said it will use the funding to enhance its product, customer-service, and account-management teams as well as scale its global operations.
  • Reach, a collaboration platform for complex transactions, closed on a $7-million Series A funding round led by Grayhawk Capital.
  • Payments provider Lightspeed Commerce Inc. has named Brandon Nussey, formerly chief financial officer, to the office of chief operating officer. Nussey has been succeeded as CFO by Asha Bakshani, a former Cineflix and Deloitte executive. The company also hired Rani Hammond as chief people officer, joining the company from GenesisCare, a health-care services provider.
  • PayByPhone, a mobile-payment app for parking, said it is shifting from a regional to a global leadership model. As part of the shift, Roamy Valera, formerly chief executive for North America, is assuming the office of chief client officer.
