Relay Payments, a fintech specializing in payments for the trucking and logistics industries, added convenience-store chain Yesway to its roster of locations.
Announced Thursday, the expansion adds to the more than 1,500 truck stops nationwide that accept Relay’s cardless payment method. Yesway also owns the Allsup convenience-store chain.
Drivers who use Relay show a unique payment code to the c-store clerk to purchase their fuel. They also can receive a discount on fuel purchases. Other elements of the Relay app include route-planning tools, the ability to store multiple payment forms, and customizable spending controls and driver policies. Fort Worth, Texas-based Yesway says accepting Relay payments provides drivers more choice.
Relay’s technology also can help reduce card skimming, it says, because there is no card to slide through a point-of-sale terminal. “Card skimming continues to be a major problem for the industry, costing fleets thousands each month,” Ryan Droege, Relay cofounder and chief executive, said in a statement.
In June, Atlanta-based Relay said Pilot Travel Centers LLC was rolling out its platform at more than 800 locations. And, in July, Relay announced an integration of McLeod Software, which provides management technology for the trucking industry. Relay launched in 2019 and now counts more than 2,000 merchants and more than 350,000 truck drivers as clients.
