Online retailer Beyond the Rack is among the latest retailers to accept MasterCard Inc.’s MasterPass digital wallet service on its e-commerce site, the card brand recently announced.
Beyond the Rack is a members-only online retailer that sells apparel and accessories.
MasterPass is a wallet platform enables mobile payments by consumers using either near-field communication (NFC) technology or quick-response (QR) codes to trigger links between handsets and merchant terminals. Wallets based on MasterCard’s technology will also accommodate cards of any brand, the company says, including rivals like Visa Inc. and American Express Co. MasterPass works in stores as well as online.
Consumers can use their MasterPass accounts on the site by looking for a Pay with MasterPass checkout button. They log in to their MasterPass accounts and confirm the purchase.
MasterCard says more than 20,000 retailers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia have adopted MasterPass. These include consumer electronics retailer Newegg.com, appliance retailer Currys and airline Porter Airlines Inc.
MasterCard expects to make MasterPass available in Brazil, Belgium, France, Italy, Singapore, Sweden and Spain by year’s end.
