SheerID And Payment Plugins Team Up to Provide Customer Verification for WooCommerce

SheerID Inc., a provider of identity-verification technology, and software developer Payment Plugins are collaborating to provide a consumer identity-verification solution for e-commerce platform provider WooCommerce.

The deal will seek to enable WooCommerce merchants to reduce fraud by ensuring gated offers and discounts are being used by customers who are the intended recipients. For example, if a shopper redeems a student discount from a merchant’s store, the new app, called SheerID for WooCommerce, will verify the person is an enrolled student before any purchase.

A gated offer requires a consumer to provide personal information, such as a name and email address, to generate leads, prompt a purchase, and create marketing campaigns targeted to those consumers.

The new app will provide customer verification for special offers and discounts to nine consumer groups, such as students, teachers, healthcare workers, and military personnel, SheerID says. Research from SheerID reveals that more than 90% of consumers within these communities will share an offer with fellow community members, which opens the door for fraudsters to intercept and take advantage of the offers.

Merchants can also use the app to restrict discounts based on inventory levels or targeted marketing campaigns. It also allows them to send shoppers reminders an item is sitting in their shopping cart, if they completed the purchase, to reduce cart abandonment.

SheerID uses 200,000 data sources worldwide to verify a person’s eligibility. Instant verification provides a richer customer experience, which leads to higher conversion rates, the company says.

“We’re thrilled to offer a SheerID integration for WooCommerce to … ensure exclusive offers are only accessible to those they are intended for,” says Clayton Rogers, founder of Payment Plugins, in a statement.
