Shopify Posts Higher Volume and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 10/25/18

  • In an online question-and-answer session with sellers, eBay Inc. said its new Managed Payments platform will add PayPal as a payment option by next summer. The new platform relies on payments provider Adyen as a gateway to a variety of payments options.
  • E-commerce processor Shopify Inc. reported an operating loss for its third quarter of $31.4 million on $270.1 million in revenue, compared to a loss of $12.7 million on revenue of $171 million for the same period last year. Gross payments volume reached $4.1 billion, compared to $2.4 billion in the year-ago period.
  • Rambus Inc. and American Express Australia announced the Rambus Token Gateway will allow merchants, acquirers, and payments providers to connect to the American Express Token Service to tokenize card-on-file e-commerce transactions. This service represents the first off-the-shelf retail token gateway with AmEx embedded, Rambus said.
  • Payments-gateway provider Computop launched version 7.0 of its Paygate product, which adds machine-learning capability for fraud prevention and point-of-sale support for Alipay and WeChat Pay.
  • E-commerce platform BigCommerce released its “Omnichannel Buying Report,” which found 80% of nearly 3,000 consumers shopped at Amazon.com Inc. in the past six months, compared to 65% who made a purchase in a physical store.
  • Point-of-sale equipment maker Star Micronics said it and MobileBytes, a POS software developer, now support each other’s products.
  • Cross-border payments provider Flow opened its first European office in Dublin.
  • The Accredited Standards Committee X9 Inc. formed new study groups on public key infrastructure and transport layer security technologies.
