Shopify’s Next Step with Affirm and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 4/9/25

  • Shopify Inc. said merchants in Canada with what the company calls “early access” can now offer to customers the Shop Pay Installments payments plan, managed by the buy now, pay later platform Affirm Inc. The move expands the plan’s availability beyond the U.S. market. General availability for Shopify merchants is expected this summer in Canada and the United Kingdom.
  • The Australia-based cafe chain Bluestone Lane said it has adopted a point-of-sale platform from Square Inc., replacing its existing system at all of its 65 locations.
  • Licel, whose technology aims to prevent fraud in transactions using mobile devices, has joined the PCI Security Standards Council as an associate participating organization.
  • The Hilton Hotel chain announced it is working with the tech platform Conferma Pay to become the first hotel group to implement technology that automates the integration of virtual card details in a property-management platform.
  • Klarna AB announced it has agreed to process payments for Aritzia, an apparel retailer with more than 100 locations in Canada and the United States.
  • Fiserv Inc. has acquired Pinch Payments, a payment facilitator based in Australia and serving approximately 2,000 merchants in that country and in New Zealand. Terms were not disclosed.
  • Payments-technology provider Flywire Corp. unveiled integrations with Ellucian, whose software supports educational institutions. The integrations are expected to speed institutions’ ability to implement Flywire’s technology.
  • Rain Technologies Inc., which offers an earned-wage-access app, said it raised $75 million in a Series B equity round led by Prosus. Rain says the funding will help support new EWA technology for financial wellness and employer applications.
  • The payments platform BlueSnap Inc. has appointed Jacky Mayne to its EU Board of Directors as an independent non-executive director. Mayne’s experience includes serving as managing director and owner of Regulatory Risk Partners Ltd.
