• Merchant processor SignaPay Ltd. announced the official launch of its PayLo software, which allows merchants to collect what the company calls a “small” service fee on each transaction processed on merchants’ point-of-sale terminals. The fee is waived if the customer uses cash or a gift card. SignaPay says the software is the only “legally compliant” such program available in the United States.
• N. Harris Computer Corp. division System Innovators released the iNovah EMV Direct, a payments technology for governmental agencies.
• Point-of-sale equipment and services provider Star Micronics America Inc. announced it is working with MoZONE Solutions, an inside-the-store ordering service.
• Chipmaker Qualcomm Inc. said its subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies Inc., will support the Android Things operating system on its Snapdragon 210 processors. Android Things OS is designed for Internet of Things applications, including payments.
• The ATM Industry Association published a study on growth prospects for retail cash-management automation in the United States.
• Digital marketer Episerver Inc. released a survey that found that 34% of online shoppers did not make a purchase because of a difficult checkout process.
• The European Banking Authority, the European Union’s bank regulator, eased proposed electronic-payments rules in an effort to promote competition, Reuters reported. Among the changes, the authority will raise the minimum transaction amount required for “strong authentication,” such as providing a password or fingerprint, to 30 euros ($31.62) from the originally proposed 10 euros.
• Total System Services Inc. (TSYS) announced it has licensed its Prime payments platform to International Bank of Qatar.
• Diebold Nixdorf named Murat Ekinci as chief information officer; Ekinci comes to the ATM manufacturer from Freudenberg IT, a global provider of managed information-technology services, and will be based in Paderborn, Germany.
