Small Businesses Continue to Rebound and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 7/22/20

  • Sales at small businesses included in the CardFlight Small Business Impact Report for July 22 experienced a 2.6% increase in sales week-over-week and are 25% above the baseline week of March 2-8. Food and drink sales were up 4.5% for the week and retail sales increased 4% week-over-week.
  • Wells Fargo & Co. launched My Wells Fargo Deals, an incentive program in which holders of Wells credit or debit cards can collect rewards from participating merchants based on spending history.
  • Payments provider PayTrace Inc. released its EMV 2.0 service that uses a keyboard emulation reader to accept card-present transactions.
  • Medical-payments provider Change Healthcare LLC said its SmartPay Payment Integration technology has been integrated with devices from Epic Systems Corp., allowing staff to collect patient payments without leaving their workflow.
  • Patriot National Bancorp Inc. said it acquired $52 million in prepaid card deposits “from a prominent national provider and processor of prepaid debit cards for corporate, consumer, and government clients,” which it did not identify. Patriot is now the issuing bank for the affected cards.
  • Kabbage Inc., a cash-flow services provider for small businesses, launched Kabbage Checking, a full-service checking account product issued by Green Dot Bank that includes a Mastercard debit card. Kabbage introduced its Kabbage Payments service last October.
  • Three UK, a United Kingdom-based telecom network, agreed to adopt the ReD Shield anti-fraud technology from ACI Worldwide to help combat fraud losses, which have risen during the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • The Accredited Standards Committee X9 Inc. expanded the scope of its X9C Corporate Banking Committee to include a focus on faster and real-time payments.
