Splitit’s Top Holiday Spending Categories and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 12/2/22

  • Buy now, pay later provider Splitit Inc. said data from the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping events found that the top spending categories on its platform were electronics, fine jewelry, fitness and outdoors, home furnishings, and health and beauty, based on merchant sales volume.
  • Consumers have hidden bill pay costs of $986 on average annually, according to doxo’s “The Hidden Costs of Bill Pay-2022” report. That’s 6% higher than in 2021 when these costs were $925. This figure includes identity fraud costs, overdraft fees, late fees, and the added costs of credit, said doxo, an electronic bill pay provider.
  • Intuit, a platform provider for payments and finance, announced it has agreed to acquire SeedFi, a technology partner to Intuit’s Credit Karma product and its Credit Builder service. Terms were not announced.
  • Marlette Holdings Inc. said it acquired Till Inc., a flexible rent platform, that it will rebrand as Best Egg, to conform to its other financial services products. Terms were not disclosed.
  • Virgin Experience Gifts, which introduced so-called experiential gifting to the U.S. market last year, has joined with Blackhawk Network to issue U.S. gift cards based on its service.
  • Nacha, the automated clearing house rule maker, said its Payments Innovation Alliance released its Voice Payments: Guide to Nacha’s Operating Rules resource.
  • Payments industry veteran O.B. Rawls has joined the board of directors of payment facilitator PayMaple. Rawls most recently was chief executive of global payment processing for Paysafe.
