SumUp’s Tap to Pay and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 10/29/24

  • The payments fintech SumUp said it has made Tap to Pay on iPhone capability available for clients in Sweden, Ireland, Austria, Czech Republic and Romania. The technology allows merchants to accept card payments with nothing more than an iPhone.
  • Payment Solutions Providers Services Inc., a Canadian fintech, has agreed to acquire the NCR Atleos debit card production and transaction processing business in Canada. Terms were not announced.
  • New Marqeta research finds that credit card loyalty is close to nonexistent, economic uncertainty is leading to more people struggling to pay their credit card bills, and that people have high expectations for what a credit card can provide, but they’re not getting their needs met. The survey canvassed 3,000 people, 2,000 of whom live in the U.S.
  • Visa Inc. announced new virtual card push-to-wallet capabilities. Users can now push virtual cards to mobile wallets, including Apple Pay and Google Pay, with spending limits and transaction monitoring, the network says.
  • Thunes announced a strategic collaboration with Circle, issuer of the stablecoins USDC and EURC, in an effort to accelerate innovation in stablecoin liquidity management.
  • Blockchain Reaction announced the launch of FiatGate, a white-label, non-custodial wallet and exchange platform that the company says is designed to close the gap between traditional finance and cryptocurrencies.
  • MoneyGram International Inc. named Anthony Soohoo chief executive officer, effective immediately. Soohoo comes to the money-transfer company from Walmart, where he was executive vice president of the retailer’s Home Division. He succeeds Alex Holmes, who has been CEO since 2016 and will now become an advisor to the company’s board of directors.
