Toast Inc. has signed an agreement with the restaurant-chain operator Dine Brands Global to install its point-of-sale and restaurant-management technology in 1,500 Applebee’s locations nationwide.
In addition to Applebee’s Dine Brands operates such restaurant chains as IHOP, Neighborhood Grill + Bar, and Fuzzy’s Taco Shop.
Applebee’s will install Toast’s POS terminals, including handheld devices, as well as its kitchen-display system, and restaurant-management software suite. Applebee’s says it expects the technology will improve operating efficiencies, employee productivity, and the customer experience.
“This is a crucial step in the evolution of our 45-year-old brand,” Justin Skelton, chief information officer for Dine Brands, says in a statement. “POS and KDS systems are essential to efficient operations and can have major impacts on both the guest and team-member experience.”
The deal with Applebee’s comes weeks after Toast signed Ascent Hospitality Management, which owns and manages the Perkins American Food Co. and Huddle House restaurant chains. Other Toast clients include Caribou Coffee, Choice Hotels, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Craveworthy Brands, Perkins American Food Co., Nothing Bundt Cakes, Papa Gino’s & D’Angelo, and Costa Vida Fresh Mexican Grill.
“Applebee’s is an iconic brand and at the heart of so many communities. Like Toast, they are focused on enabling moments that bring people together around a great meal,” Kelly Esten, Toast’s chief marketing officer, adds in a statement.
Toast has been growing rapidly as it signs major restaurant brands. Its payment volume grew 26% last year to $159 billion.
