Toast Adds Perkins And Huddle House to Its Restaurant Menu

Toast Inc. has signed Ascent Hospitality Management, which owns and manages the Perkins American Food Co. and Huddle House restaurant chains, as a client.

Ascent will install Toast’s payments platform in 500 Perkins and Huddle House locations initially. Ascent installed the first Toast platform at a Perkins location last fall, the company says. Ascent operates 598 locations in the United States and Canada.

In addition to installing Toast’s point-of-sale terminals, Perkins and Huddle House will also deploy Toast’s mobile handheld devices and its kitchen-display and restaurant-management systems.

Restaurant POS has become a hotly competitive market featuring the likes of such competitors as Fiserv Inc.’s Clover division, LightSpeed Commerce Inc., Block Inc.’s Square, and Revel Systems. The market generated $4.1 billion in revenue for device companies in 2022 and is expected to grow at an average annual growth rate of 5.4% through 2030, according to Grand View Research.

Ascent says it selected Toast because it sought a cloud-based technology partner, as well as a POS/restaurant-management platform that can quickly scale and support future innovations “for corporate users, franchisees, and restaurant staff.” The company expects Toast’s platform will enhance the customer experience for the two restaurant chains and improve their operating efficiency.

“To ensure we are well-positioned to grow for years to come, we need to increase operational efficiency—while maintaining the tradition of quality and service our guests expect from our brands,” Steve Roach, chief technology officer at Ascent, says in a statement. “From the start, the Toast team showed their excitement for our vision and demonstrated they could help us achieve it.”

Toast’s client base includes such chains as Caribou Coffee, Choice Hotels, Craveworthy Brands, which manages emerging and mid-level restaurant brands, WaBa Grill, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Papa Gino’s & D’Angelo, Costa Vida Fresh Mexican Grill, and The Human Bean.
