TSYS Renews HealthEquity Deal and other Digital Transactions News briefs

Global Payments Inc.’s $4.3 billion acquisition of processor Heartland Payment Systems Inc. closed Monday, Global Payments said. The deal, announced in December, gives the combined company more than 8,500 employees and provides services to almost 2.5 million merchants around the world.

Processor Total System Services Inc. (TSYS) renewed a payment-processing agreement with HealthEquity Inc., a health savings account administrator.

Bitcoin exchange Bitstamp, established in 2011, announced Luxembourg has granted it a license as a fully regulated payment institution.

TIO Networks Corp. closed on its acquisition of walk-in bill-payment processor Softgate Systems Inc. The deal, which involved TIO Networks stock and $4.6 million in cash, makes TIO the largest processor of walk-in bill payments in North America.

Payments-industry veteran Donna Embry has received the Distinguished Payments Professional Award from the Electronic Transactions Association. Embry is chief payments advisor at processor Payment Alliance International.

Cross-border payments firm Transpay named Mike Carlo, a former executive at WEX Inc. and GlobalCollect/Ingenico, as its global head of travel payments.

U.S. Bancorp sold its 50.1% stake in acquirer Elavon do Brasil to Stone Pagamentos S.A., a Brazilian merchant acquirer.
