U.S. Bank Credit and Debit Cards Are Now in the Paze Wallet

Credit and debit cards from U.S. Bank are now ready to use with Paze, the online checkout platform, which comes preloaded with access to up to 150 million payment cards. Paze is in the midst of a national rollout as it seeks to give issuers an edge in e-commerce checkout.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. also is readying its Paze deployment. It emailed cardholders last week saying that their credit and debit cards would soon be available in Paze. Early Warning Services LLC, a bank-owned fintech, announced Paze in 2023.

Minneapolis-based U.S. Bank, which would not disclose the number of cards it issues, says it will offer a $10 statement credit to qualifying cardholders who activate Paze by Sept. 17. On the merchant side, U.S. Bank says it has an integration through the Elavon Converge Payment Gateway. Elavon is the acquiring arm of U.S. Bancorp, parent of U.S. Bank. Other initial Paze issuers include Bank of America Corp. Capital One Financial Corp., PNC Financial Services Group Inc., Truist Financial Corp., and Wells Fargo & Co. Elan Financial Services, another unit of U.S. Bancorp, also is a Paze participant.

Other issuers are expected to follow with Paze debuts in the next couple of months, a Paze spokesperson says.

Consumers use Paze by clicking on the Paze checkout button on a merchant’s site. From there, a pop-up window appears to complete the payment portion of the e-commerce transaction. Some merchants may require account setup to make purchases.

To date, 20 merchants, including Sephora, Teleflora, Broadway.com, and CheapOAir.com, are listed as accepting Paze on the Paze Web site. Beauty retailer Sephora recently made Paze available to its loyalty-program members. Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Early Warning, which also operates the bank-centered Zelle peer-to-peer payment service, has lined up integrations, including one with GoDaddy Inc. to make Paze available to merchants on the platform. And Aurus Inc., a payment-processing software provider, has added Paze integration.

Paze is one of several recent attempts by payments platforms to reduce friction in the online checkout process. These efforts include PayPal Holdings Inc.’s Fastlane checkout, and checkout services from Apple Inc. and Google Inc.
