· Technology-testing provider UL says its cloud-based payments test suite has been approved by MasterCard Inc. It is used to test MasterCard mobile-payment applications. UL also says it now supports a new type approval program for mobile devices against an EMVCo standard.
· TD Bank Merchant Solutions will offer small businesses processor First Data Corp.’s Clover line of point-of-sale terminals and business-management software.
· The proliferation of mobile-payments services could lead to a price war, driving down acceptance rates for merchants and leaving surviving players to “find the spoils disappointing,” says The Wall Street Journal. The article cites results released last week at PayPal Holdings Inc., which showed the company’s “take rate,” or the rate it receives from merchants, had dropped from a year earlier. Mobile payments account fo 26% of PayPal’s dollar volume.
· Australian tech entrepreneur Craig Wright has admitted that he created the digital currency Bitcoin and presented “technical proof” to back his claim, but he has not made “a clear admission” that he is the mysterious Satoshi Nakomoto, said to be Bitcoin’s founder, Reuters reported. Police raided Wright’s home in December in connection with an inquiry by Australian tax officials.
