• The ATM Industry Association issued an updated position paper in support of variable surcharges, or so-called “convenience fees,” for ATM transactions; the trade group says global network policies effectively force ATM deployers to assess uniform surcharges despite differences in network interchange rates and fees, and that the coming of EMV to the U.S. is making the issue more urgent.
• With college classes starting in the United States, China’s UnionPay International said its UnionPay card is accepted at campus bookstores at “over 20 top colleges and universities” in the U.S. Globally, 18 million merchants and 1.3 million ATMs in 160 countries and regions accept the card, UnionPay said.
• Randolph Savings Bank extended an agreement to use the Cleartouch banking platform from financial-services processor Fiserv Inc. The bank also agreed to license other Fiserv services including card services, mobile banking, and the Popmoney person-to-person payments network.
• Benseron Information Technologies Inc. announced the Linga POS, an iPad-based point-of-sale system.
