Visa Closes its Visa Europe Acquisition and other Digital Transactions News briefs

Banking and financial-services provider BNY Mellon announced its Treasury Services unit has introduced Tokenized Payments, a service that allows its clients to send real-time or next-day payments to consumers. The service relies on Early Warning Services LLC’s clearXchange network and allows payments using the recipient’s email address or mobile number. The service can be used for one-time or recurring payment of insurance claims, rebates, reimbursements, and other items.

Visa Inc. closed on its $23-billion-plus acquisition of Visa Europe Ltd. and appointed Gary Hoffman, chief executive of U.K. insurer Hastings Group, to the board of the combined company, bringing the board to 12 members. Earlier this month, Visa received approval from the European Commission for the deal, which was announced in November.

Mobile point-of-sale specialist Appetize will supply 600 tablets for the POS system at U.S. Bank Stadium, the new Minneapolis venue for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings. The deal, which Appetize says is valued at more than $1.5 million, includes 500 Android tablets for fixed concession stands and 100 iOS devices for portable services and self-service kiosks.

Processor Total System Services Inc. (TSYS) and terminal maker Equinox Payments have produced a semi-integrated payments solution aimed at allowing value-added resellers to provide lodging and restaurant clients with EMV-certified equipment.

App building software provider Appy Pie Inc. added its Taxi App API to its products for small fleet owners. The service works with Stripe and PayPal Holdings Inc., but more options are expected, Appy Pie said.

Merchant processor Elavon will provide its Simplify solution to Ariane Systems, a vendor of online and kiosk check-in solutions for hotels. Simplify enables EMV, encryption, and tokenization.

MasterCard Inc. announced seven companies are participating in the summer class of its Start Path Global program to help develop commerce and financial-technology companies.

Payments provider FreedomPay is now a member of the Oracle Partner Network, enabling it to offer payment services to Oracle customers.
