Visa’s 16 Million SMB Tally and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 9/15/21

  • Visa Inc. announced it has helped enable an estimated 16 million small businesses globally for digital payments, reaching 30% of its goal to so enable some 50 million small concerns.
  • The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said it will acquire GreenSky Inc., a provider of payments and loans at the point of sale for more than 10,000 merchants, in an all-stock deal valued at $2.24 billion.
  • Mobile communications and chat commerce provider Clickatell is working with Visa Inc.’s Cybersource to deploy Clickatell’s Chat 2 Pay service with a pay-by-link capability. Pay-by-link lets consumers pay via text messaging and chat channels.
  • Buy now, pay later provider Afterpay Ltd. said PetSmart LLC will offer the payment option online and in stores.
  • Silicon Valley Bank said it now offers automated clearing house account token integration with Plaid, an open banking provider. This enables Plaid and SVB clients a secure way to process payments directly from their SVB accounts, SVB said.
  • Wex Inc. said it has signed a fleet card contract with the state of Minnesota. With the deal, Wex said it has now contracted with 34 state governments. At the local, state, and federal levels, the company has issued some 1.2 million fleet-fueling cards.
  • Identity-verification provider Clear said it is working with payments-technology firm Tappit to provide in-app identity and age verification for payments on the user’s mobile phone.
  • Payments-technology provider i2c Inc. announced it has certified with Prosa, a Mexican payments network, to process American Express, Mastercard, and Visa cards for local banks and fintechs.
  • Payments provider Paysafe Ltd. appointed Zak Cutler chief executive of the company’s North America Gaming unit, a newly created office. Cutler, who will report directly to chief executive Philip McHugh, joins the company from Jackpocket, an app that allows users to buy state lottery tickets online.
  • In related news, gaming-payments specialist Passport Technology Inc. said it has signed a multi-year deal to provide casino payments and other services for Angel of the Winds Casino Resort, marking Passport’s entry into the Washington State market.
