Transaction gateway Shift4 Corp. reports it processed $1.1 billion on more than 13 million transactions in March, marking the first time the company has exceeded the $1 billion level in a month. Las Vegas-based Shift4, which specializes in connecting hospitality merchants and entertainment venues to back-end processors via high-speed Internet Protocol (IP) links, says its transaction volume last month represents a 10-fold increase over a three-year period. J. David Oder, president and chief executive of the processor, said in a statement released today that volume increases should come at an even faster clip now, with a number of major new clients coming on board. Choice Hotels, Shari's Restaurants, Swarovski Crystal, and Lot Stores have signed with Shift4 but are not yet live on its network. Contributing major portions of the company's volume in March were Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Foxwoods Resort & Casino, Hilton Hotels Corp., Levy Restaurants, Louis Vuitton, NASCAR, and PGA Tours, the company says. Shift4 serves a total merchant base of 20,000.
