- PayPal Holdings Inc. announced a partnership with the National Basketball Association’s Phoenix Suns that makes PayPal a payment option on some point-of-sale terminals in the Suns’ arena. The PayPal logo also will adorn players’ jerseys beginning Oct. 17, when the NBA season starts.
- Free Speech Systems LLC, the company behind Infowars, which is operated by conservative firebrand Alex Jones, filed suit against PayPal in an attempt to prevent PayPal from ceasing payment processing for the company. On Sept. 21, the suit alleges, PayPal gave Infowars 10 days to find another processor. Infowars opened a PayPal account in 2000.
- Wells Fargo & Co. launched Control Tower, a service to help consumers manage their Well Fargo accounts. It can show consumers where their Wells Fargo credit and debit card information is stored, such as with recurring payments, some aggregators, and mobile wallets.
- Blockchain payments developer Ripple Labs Inc. said its customer base has more than doubled in the past year; the company also announced new users of its xRapid service.
- Mercator Advisory Group released its “Business Credit cards and B2B Payments: Opportunity to Improve Market Penetration” report that found 61% of small businesses use business credit cards, compared with 71% in 2017.
- Net Element Inc. said it reach a memorandum of understanding with Russia-based Bank Sputnik to launch a payments platform.
- ACI Worldwide said it supports the new pan-European Target Instant Payment Settlement scheme.
- Evolve Bank & Trust named Donna L. Embry senior vice president of global payment strategies in its Payment Processing Division. Embry previously was chief payments advisor at Payment Alliance International. She also is active in regional acquiring associations’ trade shows.
- Sound Payments Inc. named Bill Pittman senior vice president of sales and technology for its commerce solutions channel. Pittman’s prior positions include Sterling Payments, PowaPOS, and as founder of GO Software and TPI Software.
