- Zippy’s Restaurants said credit and debit card data, including cardholder names and numbers, may have been compromised in a “data-security incident” at its approximately two dozen locations in Hawaii between last Nov. 23 and March 29; the chain learned of the incident March 9.
- The Western Union Co. has added WeChat Pay to the offerings included in its WU GlobalPay for Students service to broaden payment options for Chinese students studying abroad.
- ATM manufacturer Hyosung introduced what it calls a “micro” full-function ATM, the 8100 QTN, which measures 21 inches wide and 32 inches deep and can handle check and cash deposits.
- With 5.6 Bitcoin ATMs per million population, the United States ranks ninth among the world’s countries for the concentration of machines that transact with the leading cryptocurrency, according to CryptoDaily. The concentration leader is the Caribbean island of Anguilla, with a mere one Bitcoin ATM but a population of only 15,000.
- Mastercard Inc.’s board of directors has nominated 14 directors, including one new member, former U.S. Bancorp chief executive and chairman Richard Davis. Davis, who stepped down as CEO and chairman in April 2017, served as executive chairman until earlier this month. The election will take place June 26 at Mastercard’s annual meeting of stockholders.
- NCR Corp., a major vendor of ATMs and point-of-sale technology, has named Michael Hayford chief executive and Frank Martire executive chairman. Hayford was most recently founding partner of investment firm Motive Partners. Martire formerly served as chief executive of Fidelity National Information Services (FIS). Former NCR chief executive Bill Nuti is retiring and will serve as chairman emeritus.
