Payroc’s Deal With i3 Verticals and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 6/27/24

  • Payments provider Payroc WorldAccess LLC has agreed to pay $440 million to acquire the merchant-of-record payments business of i3 Verticals Inc., a provider of software and services to public and private companies.
  • Afterpay, a buy now, pay later platform and part of Block Inc., said 82% of BNPL users said the service reduces financial stress at checkout. Using Morning Consult, the company surveyed 2,207 U.S. adults in late April.
  • In related news, U.S.-based buy now, pay later provider Sezzle Inc. has extended its Payment Streaks program to Canada. The program promotes users to higher loyalty tiers as they meet deadlines for installment payments.
  • Total loads on all prepaid card accounts in Canada came to $11.4 billion Canadian last year, up 5.5% from 2021, according to research from the Canadian Prepaid Providers Organization and Datos Insights. Total prepaid accounts were 63 million in 2023, up 17% from 54 million in 2021.
  • An artificial-intelligence platform called Quantifind released its Payments Risk Intelligence offering to control risk before and during transactions.
  • Business-to-business payments platform Versapay appointed Christy Johnson chief product officer and Barrett Smith chief payments and customer operations officer. Johnson has been promoted from vice president of product. Smith was promoted after more than three years in charge of payments and analytics at the company.
  • Cross-border payments service TerraPay named former Western Union executive Juan Loraschi vice president and head of North America business.
