X9 To Develop New QR Code Payments Standard  and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 8/13/24

  • The Accredited Standards Committee X9 Inc. has begun work on a new QR code payments standard. The goal is to establish the content of a QR code for payments, emphasize interoperability, and include both merchant-presented and consumer-presented QR codes. X9 said the standard is needed to accelerate the adoption of instant payments.
  • Block Inc.’s acquiring unit Square said 3.7% of restaurant transactions it processed in the second quarter included a service fee, more than doubling since the beginning of 2022.
  • Technology consulting firm CGI Inc. said it will provide systems for adjudication, payment, and collection for parking and camera violations in New York City.
  • UATP, a travel-payments platform, announced Book on Wego, an online travel agency, will issue UATP accounts for travel-related payments.
  • The payment gateway Alchemy Pay said it has partnered with cryptocurrency-based payment platform Mesh to enable online and brick-and-mortar payments using crypto from exchanges and wallets.
  • Bitcoin Depot, a deployer of kiosks that dispense Bitcoin, reported June-quarter revenue of $163.1 million, down 17% year-over-year. Revenue for the first half of the year totaled $301.6 million, down 16.5%. Net income went positive in the quarter, to $4.36 million, compared to a net loss of $4.03 million a year ago.
